At STEP, our volunteers are at the heart of everything we do. From helping care for the horses to guiding participants during lessons, they play a key role in every connection made.
A typical day might start with grooming and preparing the horses, then supporting riders as they gain confidence and skills in the saddle. Along the way, volunteers witness moments of triumph, laughter, and growth—experiences that are as rewarding for them as they are for the participants. Being a STEP volunteer means becoming part of a community united by a love of horses and a shared commitment to making a difference.
STEP volunteers bring horses and participants together, helping riders grow in confidence and skill while caring for our horses and programs. Along the way, they experience joy, connection, and the satisfaction of making a real difference in people’s lives.
Volunteers are at the heart of our program. Working alongside our instructors, you’ll learn to lead horses in the arena, walk beside riders to provide steady support, and prepare horses through grooming and tacking before lessons. Each of these roles plays a vital part in ensuring that sessions run safely and smoothly, creating meaningful experiences for both riders and horses.
Life at the barn is not just about grazing in the field and horses happily munching on carrots. Our herd has daily needs from morning to evening, including feeding, grooming, and keeping the barn tidy. Rolling up your sleeves for this hands-on care keeps our horses healthy, happy, and ready for whatever the day brings.
If you like being outdoors and lending a hand, this role keeps the farm safe, neat, and inviting. Tasks include mowing, trimming, planting flowers, fence repairs, and general maintenance. It’s hands-on work—sometimes a bit messy—but always appreciated and important.
We welcome skilled professionals who can contribute expertise in areas like electrical work, carpentry, pest control, and barn repair. Your specialized skills help maintain and improve our facilities, directly supporting the success of our programs.
