My breed is Percheron. I'm a gentle giant and a retired jousting horse. Did you know that Percherons likely descend from the Flemish “Great Horse” of the Middle Ages? In the 17th century, my ancestors were extensively used in the French cavalry. That's why I was so good at demonstrating jousting at Medieval Fairs! Percherons are known for our easy-going and patient spirit, intelligence, versatility, and were originally developed in France. Ooo, la la!

Like Anna, I'm Percheron. Over the years, Percherons have helped out by pulling stagecoaches, working on farms, and moving heavy loads. That’s actually how the term "draft horses" came about—we were the big, gentle helpers making tough jobs much easier for everyone. We're also very easy-going and work well both in harness and under saddle. Not to brag, but the Percheron breed has long been famous for our perfect horse shape, good disposition, and excellent work ethic. Check out my picture... I'm saddled up and ready to go through a games-based obstacle course with a STEP participant.

I’m Buck the Quarter Horse—cool, calm, and collected, just like a true cowboy’s best friend! I don’t get spooked easily, and I always keep my hooves steady. My calm nature makes me great for young riders and new friends, and I’m always happy to lend a hoof when someone needs help. I’ve got a strong body, a smart mind, and a heart full of kindness. Life at the barn is usually calm, so I fit right in. I stay chill, take things in stride, and make sure everyone’s having a good time. That’s just how Buck rolls!

Hi, I’m Snoopy, a.k.a. "Snoop-dog". I'm a handsome white Quarter Horse with years of experience wo with adults and children. I take my job seriously, always calm and steady for my riders, especially those who need a little extra care. I usually help new horses learn the ropes around the barn and arena—it’s kind of my thing. I’m also a favorite among volunteers because I make haltering and saddling easy; I’m happy to help however I can. After a good session, you’ll usually find me catching a nap in the sun or charming the fillies with my signature smile. Therapy is my calling, and I’m honored to be part of so many healing journeys.

My name is Cricket. I’m a 16-year-old sorrel quarter horse known for my intelligence and my flowing mane. People call me “Barbie Horse” with affection. Friendly and loyal, I love making connections with people and showing my humor by smiling for treats. Even though I adore carrots and apples, my friends mean the world to me.
I prefer being outdoors. Sure, I love trotting through the arena and showing off my moves, I used to be known as a star in western dressage! Most importantly, I have a calm, intuitive nature that helps me connect with children and adults who need a little extra support -
I played a key role in helping my owner regain her confidence after her serious fall, providing trust and support during her recovery.
Whether I’m helping a child build confidence through gentle riding or simply standing quietly while someone learns to brush and bond with me, I do my best to make them feel safe and seen. I can sense when someone’s nervous or unsure, and I adjust my pace and energy to match what they need. It’s amazing to be part of their journey—and yes, I still keep an eye (and a smile) out for a favorite treat!

Miniature Horses are known for their gentle and friendly personalities, making them wonderful companions. Their calm and obedient nature allows them to be easily trained, including as service animals for people with disabilities. These playful and curious little horses are not only easy to work with but also excel at providing support and companionship to those who need it most.

I'm a rootin' tootin' mini and I love being part of the herd at STEP! With my lively personality and undeniable charm, I bring smiles wherever I go, brightening everyone's day with my playful antics. Whether I'm trotting across the field or greeting visitors with a friendly nuzzle, my affectionate spirit makes me a favorite among both kids and adults. I take pride in being part of our herd, always ready to share joy and make new friends as we graze and explore together. My gentle nature and enthusiastic attitude help me stand out, showing that even the smallest minis can have the biggest hearts.

I like running in our big, open fields and love grazing with my buddy Carrot Top. I have long legs and know how to use them! As a model mini, I’m always eager to show off my playful spirit and curious nature. My gentle temperament makes me a favorite among visitors, and I’m quick to make friends with everyone I meet. Whether I’m learning new tricks or lending a comforting presence, I take pride in being both cheerful and reliable, bringing joy to those around me.

You'll find me wearing my fly mask to keep debris and bugs away from my eyes. I like to keep my face in the best shape possible! Some call it a fashion statement, but really, I just don't want to be mistaken for a unicorn with hay stuck to my eyelashes. And let’s face it, bugs are not on my guest list!

I keep watch over all the minis. I'm Carrot Top's Mom, and I take my role seriously. My nurturing presence helps the younger minis learn and grow with confidence, and I love guiding them as they explore our home at STEP together. Whether I'm gently nudging them toward fresh grazing or standing by as they play and make new friends, I’m always there to offer comfort and encouragement. It’s a joy to watch our herd thrive, knowing I play a part in our herd’s and our visitor’s happiness and well-being.
